The pollution that humans create is leading the thunderstorms clouds to capture heat, increasing global warming in a way that climate models have not taken into account.  Jiwen Fan of the Department of Energy's Pacific Northwest National Laboratory says that it causes their anvil shaped tops to spread out high in the atmosphere and capture hear, especially more at night.  Previous work has show us that when it is not too windy, pollution leads into bigger clouds.  This happens because the more pollution particles divide up the available water for droplets, it leads to a higher number of smaller droplets that are too small to rain.  Then they ride higher, where they are frozen and absorb more water vapor.

A study currently has found that older adults who drink java are less likely to die than those who don't.  Individuals that averaged four to five cups per day are farther of then the ones that don't.  Though it's not clear. Researches have some reassuring news for the legions of drinkers you can't get through a day without a cup of coffee in some shape or form.  They do not prove that coffee deserves the credit for helping people live longer. But it is the largest analysis to date to suggest that this might be a possibility.

AHHH!! Biggest Full Moon of the WHOLE YEAR!

The biggest full moon, of the entire year, is due to arrive this weekend.  The moon will officially become full on Saturday May 5th, 2012.  It will be at 11:35 pm EDT. This means that in the Midwest this moon will be visual at 10:35!  The moon will wing in 221,802 miles from our planet, offering skywatchers a spectacular view of a bigger and much brighter moon!  It has been nicknamed a supermoon!!  The moon's perigee coincide with full moon this month, but this perigee will be the nearest to earth of any this year, the distance of the moon's close approach varies by about 3 percent.  This happens because the moon's orbit is not perfectly circular.

South Korea Retailers Halt US Beef Sates for MAD COW

South Korea stepped up inspections of U.S. beef following the discovery of the mad cow disease in a U.S. dairy cow that led to two major retailers to pull the meet off the shelves.  Many individuals from South Korea are worried for the halt in sales of the U.S. beef.  South Korea is the world's fourth-largest importer of U.S. beef, buying about 100,000 tons of the meat worth around $600 million dollars in the year of 2011.  Everywhere else in Asia continue to say that there is no reason to restrict these imports.  The mad cow disease, also called bovine spongiform encephalopathy, is fatal to cowsand can cause a deadly human brain disease in people who eat tainted beef.

Optimism Is Good For the Heart!

Being upbeat and optimistic just may help protect against heart disease.  Scientist have long known that people that are chronically angry, anxious or depressed have a higher risk of heart attacks.  In Harvard University a review says that rather than focusing only on how to lessen heart risks, "it might also be useful to focus on how we might bolster the positive side of things" said Julia Boehm, the lead researcher in Harvard School of Public Health.  Although if you are always a pessimist, some research has found that asking people to smile helps put them in a better mood, although long-term effects aren't clear.

Pizza Sales Rise with Hot-Dog Stuffed Crusts

The pizza sales here high well before the Pizza Hut revealed its hot-dog-stuffed-crust in Britain this week.  Now, 41 percent of consumers had said that they eat pizza once a week.  Two years ago, we only had 26% that ate pizza once a week.  The reason this is because restaurants are offering more options beyond the carboard-y dough and old oily pepperoni discs, this is according to Technomic.  There are many restaurants that provide a variety of different pizza's for all kinds of tastes, some including organic, and vegetarian tendencies.  Even Domino's had picked some on these tendencies, launching its Artisan pizza line in September.

Mom's Meth Use May Affect Kids' Behavior

Women who use methamphetamine during pregnancy may be placing their unborn children at risk for behavioral problems during childhood, as researchers have found.  During the ages of 3 and 5, children who had been exposed to meth in the womb had greater emotional re-activity and higher levels of anxiety and depression than than their unexposed peers.  Also, at the age of 5, the exposure was associated with externalizing behavior problems, and not being able to pay attention. There has been an increase in concerns about the effect of prenatal exposure to meth, which also are associated with adverse effects on fetal growth, infant neurobehavior, and fine motor function.  The meth use during pregnancy was either reported by the mothers or confirmed by a meconium screen.

$1 Billion Deal with China's Online Video Sites

In Beijing Youku Inc. is China's leading online video site, reached an agreement with the smaller competitor, Tudou, in a stock deal between the two New York-listed companies worth more than $1 billion.  This deal was announced on Monday, this deal creates an unlikely partnership between two companies that have struggled to turn a profit in China's booming Internet space.  These two websites have long been rivals, fighting in court over alleged copyright infringement.  The new company name is Youku Tudou Inc.  This would command more than a third of the online video advertising market in China.  This has been challenging domestic online giants such as Baidu Inc.  and the Tencecnt Holdings Ltd. in a country where Youtube is blocked by censors.  This has also will evolve to challenge Chinese state television.

Workouts Can Alter Your DNA

New studies in the March issue of cell metabolism shows that when people exercise for something as little as a 20 minute workout, it can alter their DNA almost immediately.  The main genetic code isn't change, for example you won't go from having blonde to brunette hair.  This means that the DNA molecules within your muscles are structurally changed at specific locations.  The research concluded that changed, known as "epigenetic modifications," seem to be the early precursor to the genetic reprogramming of muscle for strength, structure and the metabolic benefits of exercise.  The researchers also found out hat caffeine can change muscles in the similar ways.  The ones that had been exposed to caffeine showed fewer DNA chemical marks than they did before exercise.   As said my Zierath, a researcher, "Exercise is medicine."

Inch Long Fleas

Dinosaurs also had to deal with the pest of the fleas, that were an inch long.  The oldest fleas ever found sucked dinosaur blood from 125 million to 165 million years ago. A new fossil was found in China by the Institute of Geology and Paleontology.  Diying Huang says that their disproportionately long proboscis, or straw-like mouth, had sharp weapon-like serrated edges that helped them bite and feed from their super-sized hosts, he and other researchers reported Wednesday in the journal Nature.  The ancient female fleas were twice the size of the male, this is also the case for current fleas.
The fossils of a female, left, and a male flea from the Middle Jurassic period. The giant dinosaurs that roamed the world some 150 million years ago shared the planet with equally daunting parasites: blood-gobbling fleas that were almost an inch long.

30,000 Year Old Plant Brought Back to Life

This plant became extinct thousands of years ago, and was brought back to life by the Russia scientists.  These scientists.  They were able to grow these plants by its seed.  This seed is thought to have been frozen 30,000 years ago by the help of some Ice Age squirrels.  Experts believe that this Silene stenophylla is the oldest plant material to be brought back to life.  The fruit was found in the banks of the Kolyma River in Siberia.  It was discovered by a group that were looking for mammoth bones and came across this seed.  This is the second time that they tried to bring the Silene stenophylla back to life, as the first time failed.  They are hoping that tin the future they will be able to use the same types of techniques to bring animals like the mammoth back from extinction.

Overeating Could Cause Memory Loss? in elderly.

A new study suggests that overeating may double the risk for memory loss, or mild cognitive impairments (MCI), among people age 70 and older.  This study will be presented at the American Academy of Neurology's 64th Annual Meeting in April.  This study involved over 1,200 dementia-free people between ages 70 and 89.  Of those people 163 people had MCI.  These participants filled out a questionnaire about the amount of calories they consumed daily.  MCI, or mild cognitive impairment is the intermediate stage between the expected cognitive decline of normal aging and the more pronounced decline of dementia, according to the Mayo Clinic.  It increases a person's risk for developing later dementia, including Alzheimer's disease, but some people with MCI never get worse.

Next Supercontinent?

In about 50 to 200 million years from now, geologist are expecting that the Earth's continents are to smash into one super large continent.  This suggests that the Arctic Ocean and Caribbean Sea will be among the first to disappear.  Another point of view is that scientist have assumed that either the Atlantic Ocean will close up, and reverse what once separated these continents apart.  The current spreading zone in the Atlantic would push the land forms 180 degrees around the world to close up the Pacific instead.   The model is based on the magnetism of ancient rocks.  A doctoral student at Yale, Mitchell, took the project with other students, to record the orientation of Earth's continental plates.  Also how they have changed with respect to the magnetic poles over billions of years.

Doctors Remove Twin From Boy's Stomach

On January 30th, 2012, Peru Doctors planned to remove the remains of a partially formed twin fetus from the stomach of three year old boy, in this case the brother.  The living boy/twin Isbac Pacunda, absorbed his brother in his stomach during development in the mother's womb.  The fetal that is in Isbac is 1 1/2 Pounds, has eyes, bones, hair, and is 9 inches long.  This condition only occurs one in every 500,000 live births.  Some conjoined twins lives as a form of "parasites," which allows them to rely on the body of the other for a blood supply and organ function.  This case was very different since this is known as a fetus-in-fetus.

Magic Mushrooms may be Therapeutic

With the growing number of studies on these mushrooms it has been concluded that, they might work magic for certain mental disorders.  The new research in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences has promising future in curing depression.  Researcher David Nutt quoted, "We have found that these drugs turn off the parts of the brain that integrate sensations- seeing, hearing, feeling-with thinking".  Another brain region that psilocybin affects is the anterior cingulate cortex, which is over-active in depression.  Some patients with severe depression that cannot be treated with brain stimulation and using the Psilocybin could be a cheaper option.

Aircraft Carriers Better For Cars Than For Jets

Since the beginning of the year we keep on learning more things about the U.S. military aircraft carrier program.  Three of the most recent include the face that the Pentagon may be looking at reducing the amount of carriers in the United States from 11 to 10 in order to save money.  Second, the military's new F-35C Joint Strike Fighter may not be work for the carrier use.  Last third, aircraft carriers make fine automobile transports.  Cutting the carrier along with the other forces that make up the battle group could save Navy billions.  Many believe that the government should keep the citizens a lot more informed of what is happening with the impact of the defense review.
